September 2024

Dear WID Members, Sponsors, and Friends,

This fall, I am humbled and excited to step into the role of WID President, following in the footsteps of Marcela Hahn and the extraordinary women who have served WID in this capacity over the past 44 years. I also want to acknowledge the leadership of the board and the many dedicated volunteers who contribute their energy, time, and enthusiasm to making WID a premier organization empowering women in the development profession.

WID has been a cornerstone of my career for over two decades. I first joined the organization in my mid-twenties, filled with awe, inspiration, and a touch of intimidation by the incredible women I encountered. As a volunteer and later a board member, WID became an important community where I formed lasting relationships with talented women in the field, benefiting from their guidance and mentorship.

Today, I am eager to build on WID’s past successes and look toward the future. WID’s strength lies in its vibrant membership community. As such, growing our membership by inspiring the next generation of development professionals and leaders is critically important. WID will continue to provide a welcoming environment for those who transition to the field, and to the diverse and experienced professionals who seek an inclusive space where they can hone their skills and make valuable connections.

With Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity at the core, our focus will be on three initiatives as part of this priority:

  • Exceptional programming that embraces diverse experiences, innovative approaches, and emerging trends.
  • Brand Amplification to reach a greater number of diverse professionals in the field so that WID can be seen and grow; and
  • Community-building and connection will be the heart of the WID member experience.

As we get ready to kick-off the new programmatic year, I’m pleased to share that we will  enhance the member experience through a new member-only virtual event series called WID Office Hours. Attendees will have the opportunity to bring their questions and have them answered in intimate Zoom room settings staffed by experts.

I am also excited to announce our theme for the year: “Community, Ignited.” It takes many hands to make WID work, so I invite you to support this vibrant community by getting involved as a volunteer, program sponsor, or by hosting one of our events.

Let’s make this a year of remarkable progress and meaningful connections. I look forward to seeing many of you at one of our outstanding events.

Warmly,

Svetlana Mostovsky
